Shield Engineering Ltd is a medium-sized, manufacturing company specialising in precision machining of engine components based in Leicester.
The annual energy consumption at this site is 2,312,300kWh with an overall annual service cost of approximately £65,120.
Installation
A DATACHICK and Dynamat software configuration was installed on the site.
Energy savings identified
Originally there was a constant electricity base load of 270kWh for 13hours (Monday to Thursday – 5:00pm to 6:00am). The site confirmed that there was a lot of industrial equipment that was not being switched ‘OFF’ due to error messages, which took time to rectify every morning. Therefore the equipment was only switched ‘off’ during the weekends.
Following general maintenance work and a review, it was decided that a number of electrical items could be switched ‘off’. This exercise save £235/week with no capital investment required and further savings opportunity of £254/week.
Results
Annual electricity saving just based on improved good practice based on the learnings from the system, was £10,575/annum (126.0 TCo2) with further opportunity to save £11,430/annum.
Payback from the investment was 2.4 months.
